Sax.co.uk Recommends

Widely regarded as the least expensive silver plated "professional quality" sax.

A perfect upgrade from your student sax or a great, versatile horn for a professional player - the YAS62S has long represented a benchmark for entry level pro horns.

For an’ all rounder’ the Yamaha YAS62 is extremely hard to beat. Very much designed as a blank canvas, this horn is at home in pretty much any context from rock to classical and responds well right across the board. Anyone who’s finding themselves held back by their student instrument, or a more advanced player looking for a great sax on a budget should definitely consider a 62 as their next step forward.

The brass body is left unlacquered and plated with beautiful bright silver plating. The lack of lacquer does mean occasional cleaning with a silver cloth is required in order to maintain the finish. However, the added layer of resonant precious metal gives more projection and a wonderful extra dimension to the sound.

One of the most successful saxes of all time and I love it - it was my choice of upgrade sax 30 years ago. Smooth and comfortable to play with a powerful tone. Deservedly recommended by teachers Worldwide. Everything you would expect from a Yamaha and a little bit more! Along with many Yamaha endorsees, we find their silver plated models really do have some extra "star quality." Phill Straker (Sax.co.uk)

    "Great Value Workhorse"
For a player looking to upgrade on a first Alto, or a pro looking for a budget instrument of Japanese quality that punches above its weight.....this sax would be hard to beat.... In this instance the plated silver finish adds brightness to the tone...and can be kept brightly polished or allowed to develop a characterful patina like some of the expensive lacquer finishes offered on other saxophones. Key action is smooth and light....intonation faultless across the range. A pleasure to play with Ebonite or Metal mouthpieces... A definite keeper Recommended....!!
