This is an incredible new instrument from Yamaha - this sax instantly wows with a very dynamic and broad tone. I finally feel that Yamaha have produced a soprano that sits among the best within the market. The more you take time to play this the more tonal possibilities you discover. It strikes me more as a horn to work for Jazz rather than Classical styles, so if this is your thing I would definitely put this on your hit-list of saxes to try. Jim Cheek (Sax.co.uk)

This saxophone was compared to a Selmer series II and a yanigisawa s901. It was surprisingly equal to the Selmer but the s901 was superior in every way. The sax had a more jazzy tone and struggled with intonation and didnt keep in tune as well as the other two. However this is a decent entry level pro or mid pro saxophone. Good for a first pro soprano. I used a Selmer S90 mouthpiece, Selmer Paris ligature, and a v12 reed size 3 1/2 for classical and a V16 mouthpiece, a rovner dark, and red Java size 3 for jazz/modern. This is definitely a pretty good soprano saxophone.
