Vandoren Profile Ebonite - Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece - AP3
A new sound aesthetic defined by the latest generation facing. The Profile mouthpiece is a further refinement of design by Vandoren, to suit the needs of modern classical saxophone players.
The Profile is the latest offering from Vandoren for Classical saxophone players. Available in one tip opening and facing, that has been designed specifically to give the player the greatest balance of response, clean articulation, projection, and a colourful sound to play with.
The tip opening of this mouthpiece measures at 1.58mm, which for comparison is roughly the same as a Selmer C* or Concept for Alto.
What has impressed with the range of Vandoren mouthpieces is the quality and clarity of the sound produced. With good reeds and a good ligature these mouthpieces feel very comfortable to play and really help the sax player to maximise his or her potential. There are a wide variety to choose from whatever style of music you are into. They are professional quality mouthpieces in every way at an affordable price

When trying out the Profile AP3 I decided to compare it to its equivalent in the Optimum series of mouthpieces. I myself have owned an Optimum AL3 for several years, and I have been very happy with it for classical playing. I found the Profile AP3 very interesting because it was very similar to my Optimum, but also very different. I found the Profile to be slightly resistant in comparison to the free blowing response I’m used to with the Optimum (so potentially a slight reed strength adjustment needed there). The trade-off though, was that I found the scope of colours available to the Profile was a lot more extensive. I was easily able to maintain a full-bodied tone even at low volumes, and when pushed, this mouthpiece gives the upper register a beautiful shimmering quality. Another fine example from Vandoren! If you’re after a top quality classical piece then this is definitely a serious contender! – Oren Gurney (firstname.lastname@example.org)
