A Guide to Repairs and Servicing

Both our stores have fully equipped on-site workshops staffed each working day. We undertake work from small running repairs to full overhauls and restorations of vintage instruments. Please contact either of our workshops by phone or email to discuss the work you require. Please note our London workshop is very popular and prior booking is essential for any work with a time limit. See below for a guide to our services and pricing.


This service is free to any instrument purchased from in the last 12 months (please bring a proof of purchase).

  • Pads checked
  • Key action checked
  • Key corks/felts checked
  • Minor adjustments made if required
  • Fully play tested

This service is available to instruments not purchased from at charged at our hourly rate.

General Service

Recommended every year.

  • Pads checked for condition and seating, adjusted or replaced as required
  • Key regulation, and key action, checked, adjustments made as required
  • Key corks/felts checked, any worn or missing pieces replaced
  • All pivot points oiled
  • Crook cork fitting checked
  • Fully play tested

This service starts from £80.

Full Service

Recommended every 3 years. Same as a general service PLUS:

  • Instrument fully disassembled, body and keywork fully cleaned
  • During re-assembly all rods/screws cleaned and re-oiled
  • Crook cork replaced

This service starts from £160.

Full re-pads and overhauls

Recommended for vintage instruments to restore them to their former glory, or instruments where the majority of the pads need replacing.

  • Instrument full disassembled, body and keywork cleaned
  • Any repairs required to the main body undertaken
  • Loose or poor fitting keywork adjusted
  • Toneholes levelled where required
  • All pads replaced and seated
  • Any broken springs replaced
  • Loose or poor fitting keywork adjusted
  • Key corks/felts replaced, regulation and key action set

This service starts from £500.


Both workshops are able to undertake a range of repairs from realigning bent keys to removal of dents and straightening of instruments. Please not that we do not undertake relacquering.

All repairs are charged individually at our rate of £60 per hour, with a minimum charge of £25.

Crook re-corking

Please bring your crook and mouthpiece into either of our stores and we can recork it for you, usually done whilst you wait in store (please allow up to 90 minutes depending on the level of business).

Standard re-corking is £25 (50% discount if done in conjunction with the purchase of a new mouthpiece in store).

Non-Saxophone repairs

Our repairers all have experience in servicing and repairing all instruments of the woodwind family. In some cases there may be a small delay as we stock with relevant pads for your instrument. Please contact our workshops for more information; currently the Sussex workshop is more available for this work.

Instruments sent by post – UK ONLY

If you cannot bring your instrument into either of our stores then we do accept instruments sent to our Sussex store. Please contact or call to speak to the workshop beforehand to inform us that the instrument is coming. Please enclose your contact details inside the case.

Please be aware that sending instruments via post or courier incur a risk of damage in transit to us – will not be liable for any damage incurred in transit.

When sending an instrument to us ensure it is in a suitable case and well packaged into a strong cardboard box. Make sure the box is clearly labelled as FRAGILE and fully insured in case of any problems when it reaches us. We recommend using a reliable courier service such as DPD, UPS, or Parcelforce. Please send the instrument to our Sussex store address for the attention of Amy.

Return of serviced instruments (UK)

If required, we can arrange to have instruments returned to you via DPD Local couriers for a charge of £25 per instrument. For instruments of an extremely high value this cost may rise to £50 with insurance factored in. Please discuss this with a member of the workshop team when you book your service.

Insurance Quotes/Estimates for repair work

A full appraisal and written insurance quote or estimate detailing work required, and/or damage sustained.

This service is charged at £50 (refunded - if the instrument is repaired or replaced by us).
