Repair Service Guide

London = £60p/hr, Crowborough = £50p/hr

Question - When should you bring your sax in?

  • Do some notes sing more than others?
  • Can you play the full dynamic range at the lower and upper end of the horn?
  • Is your neck cork too thin or falling off?
  • Are you having trouble with resistance and having to use more air?
  • Is your sax visibly dirty or dusty?
  • Have you got an exam in next 2 months?
Before a decision is made on what kind of work is best/needed for your instrument one of our trained technicians will have to give it an assessment and advise what service is needed.

First Year Check

If you have purchased an instrument from us within the last year, you will be entitled to a first year checkover. This is 30 minutes work on the instrument consisting of minor follow up adjustments - generally correcting small leaks and regulation. These corrections are normally down to the instrument settling in.

Recork 30mins

We can normally do this on the spot while you wait (30-40mins), we will need your mouthpiece so we can correctly size the cork.

General Playing Order Service 1-2hours (plus materials)

Identify and fix main concerns on the instrument without removing, cleaning and oiling key-work. This can include changing necessary pads, reseating pads, regulation, soldering and removing dents (please note not all these jobs will be completed in a GPO only enough to fit the allocated time of 1-2hours). This type of service is best for instruments that have had a full service within the last 2-3years (subject to usage).

Full Service 4-5hours (Alto & Tenor) 5-6hours (Baritones & Sopranos) (plus materials)

Strip and clean all key-work and body. If necessary straighten body, remove any dents, straighten any rods or key-work and replace any missing parts (any extra time or parts required will be reflected in the price). Reassemble, re-oil, re-seat pads and regulate. Crook cork replaced if necessary. The instrument will then be fully play tested by one of our amazing technicians.

Full Overhaul

Strip and clean all key-work and body. Check and level tone holes where required. Any repairs required to the main body. Tighten any loose keywork. All pads replaced and seated. All necessary springs replaced. All key corks and felts replaced. The instrument is then thoroughly play tested. You are entitled to one free follow up check within 6 weeks of collection to allow for adjustments to pads that have settled in.
