Phil-Tone Sapphire Tenor
The Sapphire is inspired by the Blue Note Era of the 1960′s. It replaces my previous reworked links. Its design is drawn from the Late Florida Slants and the Early Babbitt pieces. Its floor is higher than a modern Link and its projection and color is greater. It can blow dark and smokey with a rich core and has the power to project and cut through in more straight ahead situations. The Sapphire is never tubby and it is very even through the range of the instrument. With its rich and colorful palate the Phil-Tone Sapphire fills a space like no other.
Having just road tested this piece, I can see that it is going to be very popular for a lot of jazz tenor-heads! It strikes a good balance between edge and body, it responds nicely with a medium resistance. It was the manufacturer’s intention to capture the essence of the Florida Link and I think it’s fair to say that they’ve done this very well. Jim@sax.co.uk
