Description

A great sax with extra vintage jazz appeal.

A true modern classic - the sax that inspired a generation of vintage style horns. This top of the range Influence (X) model features solid nickel silver key touches for improved player feedback and extra resonance.

Description

The solid nickel silver key touches featured on the Influence (X) model are unique in the world of professional saxes.

The Mauriat 66R made an enormous impression when it exploded on to the sax scene a few years ago - from some of the greatest players down, saxophonists immediately fell for its dramatic but versatile character. It elevated P.Mauriat to sit alongside the World's best sax makers. Described in reviews as the closest to the legendary Selmer Mk6 - praise indeed!

This Custom Class "Vintage Series" tenor features a vintage dark lacquer finish (DK), rolled tone holes, beautiful abalone shell key touches and high F# key. The vintage look is in keeping with the vintage tone this model is famous for. The larger bell further encourages a full bodied and warm tone.

It is rare to find rolled tone holes on a modern sax and these give a noticeably quieter key action and extended pad life.

Reviews

I must to confess to being a little sceptical about the metal key touches but wow - they do make a difference! More metal = more resonance and there is even more body and power here, especially noticeable in the higher registers plus they feel and look great. Phill (Sax.co.uk)

When I got my P Mauriat, for the first time in my life I felt inspired to play on a horn other than my old Selmer. The sound of PMXT-66R is very warm and I get more volume and flexibility. Jakob Dinesen

I recommend the P Mauriat to players who are looking for a vintage sound and feel, but modern intonation and keywork. The sound is really outstanding. PMXT 66R has its own personality. Adam Klemm

It has such a great combination of resonance, clarity, and a wonderful even sound from top to bottom. It is a one-of-a-kind horn that elevates my playing to another level. To say that I love it is an understatement. Darren Rahn

Staff Review

The Mauriat 66R has been lauded as something of a modern classic for several years now, notable users including Andy Sheppard and James Carter. This is a sax with a huge, flexible voice and remarkable ease of playing….

The nickel key touches are unique to the Influence model and, while they may seem little more than a gimmick, do make playing the sax a somewhat different sensation to the normal. The physicality of playing the sax makes it seem more ‘alive’ in the hands. It makes me feel there’s some sort of vibration feedback we all get through our saxes, that we regularly take for granted, but which is a lot more noticeable in this model. On a minor practical level the nickel is also more non-slip than pearls; good news for hot, sweaty gig situations. We’re not talking about huge differences but there’s definitely something more satisfying about the playing these horns which justifies their quirky nickel keywork Jules@sax.co.uk
