Selmer (Paris) Soloist Mouthpiece - Alto Saxophone
The new "Soloist" mouthpieces designed by Selmer-Paris have been inspired from the older "Soloist" models manufactured in the 40's. Precision tooled from a hard rubber bar, its inner chamber offers a nice direct volume. A warm, centered sound to play both Jazz and classical repertoire.
This mouthpiece is based on a vintage Selmer model, and certainly one can get a tone reminiscent of the golden age of jazz! The chamber is horseshoe shaped and small in size, which helps to create a well-centred and rounded sound. The tone was full and consistent throughout the range of the sax. I could produce a nice full warm pianissimo, and then a raw and buzzy tone when playing forte. This is a very versatile mouthpiece, one that could be used for classical concerts or for the lush sounds of a big band sax section. The Rovner Mk III worked well, enabling me to get loads for volume, but without compromising sub-tone. My favourite reed combination was LaVoz M to get that definitive 1950s sound.
Supplied without cap and ligature. We recommend a Rovner or BG ligature.
