"Like
most companies, P.Mauriat boasts of having the "vintage" sound for which
people search. Unlike most other companies, I believe they might have just
found it." -Jazz Times
PMB-300DK Custom Class Bronze Baritone Sax
This is P.Mauriat's top of the line,
professional model baritone saxophone with a range down to Low A and up to
High F#. Dark lacquered bronze means it plays warmer and darker. Great for a
vintage American sound.
Extensive special hand engraving and beautiful abalone pearl key touches.
With hard case & basic mouthpiece. Nice metal ligature and cap that matches
the saxophone finish.
"This is a beast, and no mistake. First up,
there's a robustness about it. It feels solidly made and, from what we've
experienced, they are well constructed & reliable.
As with the majority of the Mauriat range there is something going on here
that you really don't get with other modern horns. The sound is huge, dark
and mellow, I was reminded of the old Conn M12 T-bar horns- but with the
extra advantage that the Mauriat has a modern action and its intonation is
vastly superior to the notoriously dodgy tuning of the old T-Bars. Though it
isn't immediately apparent, the main body of the PMB300 is actually made of
bronze- a fact which accounts for a significant amount of it's vintage tone
and also its solid feel.
Anyone looking for a big, powerful instrument should definitely consider the
Mauriat. For those who are looking for that old fashioned sound, from Gerry
Mulligan & Harry Carney to the rhythm and blues players of the 1950s- the
Mauriat is about as close as you're going to get." Jules@sax.co.uk
