Today and in future, this position is based on constant quality improvements and skilled craftsmanship combined with the most modern production techniques together with the company’s spirit and the commitment of its employees. It is a company making high value saxophones with feeling and passion which are preferred by many world class saxophone players.

A continuous change of experience between Keilwerth and top musicians from all over the world has always been beneficial to the quality of the instruments and thus to the musician. Professionals and  amateurs do not only value the quality associated with the Keilwerth name. Saxophone players of all types of music and styles also appreciate the reliable customer service provided by the company.

The company Julius Keilwerth, established in 1925 started as a small woodwind shop and progressed within 10 years into one of the best known makers of saxophones worldwide. After World War II, Keilwerth moved to Nauheim, near Frankfurt. Until 1962 the company was managed by the founder Julius Keilwerth and then by his son Josef.

Since 1970 Keilwerth has concentrated its efforts on the production of saxophones. Today a complete range, from soprano to bass is being produced. Accordingly Keilwerth is able to offer the right instrument for each musical style.

In 1989, Keilwerth joined the Boosey & Hawkes Group and thus belongs to a successful world wide company.

The Keilwerth Saxophone Range
One of the World's big 4 pro sax companies, manufacturing in Germany apart from the ST range which are made under licence by the well respected Jupiter company in Taiwan. Note the extra large flare on the bell - these saxes sound big and feel a little larger than the average horn. Everyone loves the big tone but not everyone feels immediately comfortable with the action. Those that do and those who learn to love them seldom want to play any other sax.

ST90 Series. High grade student models made in Taiwan to Keilwerth's design by highly regarded Jupiter who also make the Buffet saxes.

EX90 Series. Professional quality made in the famous German factory.

SX90 Series. Top of the range hand made in Germany. Professional saxes for every music style. The SX90 is a focused, bright horn that can cut through the biggest big band or blend in seamlessly in small ensembles.

SX90R with rolled tone holes. Keilwerth took the technical advantages and improvements of the SX90, and added some extra features to truly make the musician‘s instrument his own. The result was the SX90R (the R standing for tonehole rings), a saxophone reminiscent of the old Conn and Buescher saxes of the 1940s. The most striking feature of this saxophone is its toneholes. The SX90R uses tonehole rings which are soldered on to the standard drawn toneholes. The tonehole rings give the pads a longer life, and the rings themselves are easier to replace if necessary, because they are a piece separate from the tonehole. The production of darker, more immediate, less focused sound is an added benefit of the tonehole rings, which allow the musician to form his own individual voice.

Keilwerth Shadow alto and tenor. Two of the world's most sought after saxophones. Made from solid nickel silver, black nickel plated, clear lacquered, silver plated keywork, extensive fine engraving, black mother of pearl key inlays, rolled tone holes & special case.

In 2000 Keilwerth produced a limited edition 75th anniversary model. They are no longer available but click here if you'd like to find out more about them.

Sorry for not writing earlier. I was busy playing the sax in my spare time. This Sax ROCKS!!! It looks great and it plays even better. The sound is super! Just what I wanted, warm but modern. I actually do believe that a tone is coming out before I even breath out. The action is great, too. Finally Keilwerth sorted their handling out. Great horn. Oh by the way, to say that it is just black doesn't do the horn right. It does still catch the light nicely but is quite elusive at the same time; it's a Shadow! The thought that I am amongst (or maybe even am) the first lucky owner(s) in Britain makes this very special horn even better. The wait was well worth it. Thank you very much for getting this Sax for me. If one of your customers wonder what I am raving on about, send them over to Guernsey. I'll show them what I mean. Thanks again. One happy very happy customer. Kind regards, Klaus

P.S. If somebody has questions about it - don't hesitate to use me as a reference; I'll tell them what a horn that is. And if you looking out for refs for this horn on your web-page; it would be an honour to be the first one.

Just a brief note to let you know that the Keilwerth EX90 Tenor (in black nickel) that I purchased from you guys arrived in 2 DAYS!!...and that was to Portland, Oregon, USA!!  Wow, you guys know how to excite your customers!!  The horn is just beautiful.  From the moment I found your website I kept coming back to it.  I did lots of web surfing and comparison shopping...NO ONE came close to the quality of your customer service or your prices.  You have web pages and answers to virtually everything I needed to know...and then some.  I also greatly appreciated how fast you responded to my e-mail questions.  Your company is truly a gem.  Thanks.  Jonathan S Preiss, DC
