The black lacquer is a special order from the factory so we commisioned this one a few months ago and here it is, playing and sounding as good as it looks!
Black lacquer is thicker than clear or gold lacquer which encourages a warm tone and makes this the 'darkest' sounding finish. Sounds more powerful without being edgy - we like it!

To minimise cleaning, lacquered saxes are sprayed with a thin layer of plastic lacquer which slightly dampens the resonance of the metal. In contrast, unlacquered silver plated saxes have an addional layer of metal providing extra resonance.....but it is harder to keep them clean. Silver is the brightest sounding finish.

Hand engraved clear lacquered bronze body with gold lacquer fittings. Low Bb to High F#.
These bronze models continue to be the most outstanding models in this exceptional range of saxophones - nearly all the Yanagisawa endorsees choose them. The bronze enhances a round warm tone, often described as being similar to the classic old American saxes. It looks slightly darker than brass making it just a little more individual.
