The whole Vandoren range of mouthpieces- both metal and ebonite- are extremely well made and eminently playable. Their metal V16 for tenor is one of the best metal ‘pieces around- beautifully designed, freeblowing plus excellent intonation/tuning. This is a relatively large chambered piece with no significant baffle, making for a warm, dark, extremely full tone- very different from a lot of bright modern metal designs. There’s a big core tone but with the potential for pushing the sound for bright projection when needed- there’s lot of tonal flexibility here- these ‘pieces would acquit themselves well in any context from small band jazz through to electric R&B (providing the guitars aren’t turned up to 11!). The Optimum ligature designed to accompany them is also well worth considering to maximize the 'piece's potential.
