Having initially acquired it for honking rock & roll I only discovered later that it's big tone was extremely effective for ballads. The potential for extreme dynamics makes the Smoothbore a very strong contender indeed; for raw power and altissimo it is unbeatable, but it can be easily backed off to a pleasingly bright warmth on mellower numbers.
