The excellent Vandoren Optimum is exceptionally free blowing, easy to control and offers a good all round sound. It is a favourite amongst saxophone teachers. We find the Rovner ligature compliments the mouthpiece very well, adding a hint of richness. Rico Royal reeds are easy to play, making blowing and tone production a breeze! It is an ideal first mouthpiece to upgrade to with a leaning towards a more pure, classical tone.

For all students who want a slightly more jazzy and breathy sound this mouthpiece will certainly help you achieve that. Although slightly more resistant, the Otto Link produces a full, rich and dark sound. The Rovner ligature, makes it a little more free blowing and is better for support. Rico Royal No.2 reeds are an easy blow so will ease your progression on to this more advanced mouthpiece.
