Runyon ebonite mouthpieces are machined out of a solid bar of ebonite. This makes them much thinner than other ebonite mouthpiece and they take on many of the characteristics of more expensive metal mouthpieces.

The CUSTOM is the all around choice suitable for any type of music played by the experienced player.

Spoilers can be placed inside Runyon Mouthpieces to increase volume and give an instant wicked, raunchy rock sound!. Spoilers are small metal reeds that increase the loudness of the instrument, yet maintain its overall tone, with the same amount of breath. Each mouthpiece has a specific spoiler designed to fit its unique characteristics. A beginning student can play louder with confidence. The experienced professional can play with increased authority.

Runyon Quantum Delrin Soprano with Spoiler

On the face of it a Runyon Quantum is an odd choice for a soprano sax. What would normally be regarded as a rock or funk piece on alto or tenor really doesn't seem to be an ideal choice on sop. However- the result is quite surprising- yes, it plays bright and powerful but there are other things going on here too, which make it a contender. The Quantum is an extremely free-blowing piece and very responsive, both of which make it extremely playable. The basic tone is also interestingly different- bright & reedy, a great option for a distinctive jazz tone or 'world music'.
