I've just got the Otto Link tone edge 5 and o my god I can chuck out notes without a problem now, what a difference from the standard. You are a 100% star, thanks for the speed, top rate staff and for the help in the choice. Yours Steve Cave

With BG Revelation ligature and Vandoren no.2 1/2 reeds this mouthpiece sings and swings! Articulation was very clear, intonation spot on. The sax played evenly in all registers and seemed to respond to everything I did. Edgy and expressive, but with a very fulsome sound, it got even funkier with a Rico Jazz Select reed, nice 'buzz' to the tone. Altissimo register was not a problem, very easy to blow, with just the right amount of resistance to make you work( but not too hard). This has to be used with a BG ligature. The Rovner seemed to clog things up a bit and as for the standard ligature - just forget it(sax used Selmer S80 Series II)!

"I can see why this mouthpiece has been enjoyed by all standards of player for so long. It's so easy to play with an even response from top to bottom. It may struggle in a loud big band solo but it's great for players who want a warm sound without having to sacrifice projection. It also has great overtones which immediately pop out when you want them to. For me, the character of the Link is reminiscent of the classic Joe Henderson era." - Paul london@sax.co.uk

Otto Link started as a repair technician in the William S. Haynes flute company in Boston, Massachusetts, in the 1920s. In the early 1930s he moved to 117 West 48th street in New York City to start his own mouthpiece business. During the 1950s he briefly moved to Freeport on Long Island, NY, before moving his business to Pompano Beach, Florida in the late 1950s. He later sold the company to Ben Harrod who continued to produce and hand finish mouthpieces under the Otto Link name during the 1960s/70s. Today, Otto Link mouthpieces are produced and distributed by the J.J. Babbitt company in Elkhart, Indiana.
