Most student saxes are supplied with the cheapest mouthpiece the manufacturer feels they can get away with. Most players will tell you that the mouthpiece is even more important than the sax so make life easier by choosing one of our recommended upgrade set-ups.

Soprano Sax: Vandoren Optimum Ebonite, Rovner Ligature, Box of Rico Royal Reeds, Mouthpiece Patches. The excellent Vandoren Optimum is exceptionally free blowing, easy to control and offers a good all round sound. It is a favourite amongst saxophone teachers. We find the Rovner ligature compliments the mouthpiece very well, adding a hint of richness. Rico Royal reeds are easy to play, making blowing and tone production a breeze! Although slightly more resistant, the Otto Link produces a full, rich and dark sound. The Rovner ligature, makes it a little more free blowing and is better for support. Although made out of plastic it is great for control and response, and it has a surprisingly sweet and rounded tone for a plastic model.
