Bauhaus Waltstein burst onto the scene a couple years ago with a range of extremely affordable, but very well designed & made, saxes. Their initial range consisted of bronze bodied horns- rich toned, with a certain huskiness typical to a lot of phosphor bronze instruments. Above all they are very easy blowing and consistent throughout their range. The second generation of these horns- the Action Improved- have a small, but significant difference in their construction; The use of shoulderless point screws & a redesigned pillar/rod mechanism may not immediately excite a lot of players but they do represent a step forward when it comes to maintaining the horn as well as providing an overall smoother action. For anyone wanting a beginners saxophone with a lot of character or even advanced players wanting a gigging horn on a budget- the Bauhaus Walstein should definitely be on your shortlist |
