For
over one hundred years, the name Conn has meant the very finest in
American-made saxophones. The legendary models of the earlier part of the
twentieth century are among the most prized and sought after among
collectors and performers alike. As a tribute to the
quality of construction and design, vintage Conn
saxophones are often seen today in the hands of top professionals as the
"instrument of choice", and many of the innovations
first pioneered by the Conn company are found on instruments produced
today by manufacturers around the world.
Late
1930's Conn 30m Conqueror Tenor £1,400 SOLD
This sax is the personal
property of Jules here at sax.co.uk (jules@sax.co.uk).
Here's what he has to say about it:
"This horn is an American
Classic- a Conn 30M tenor dating from the late 1930s, made by the Conn
Corporation of Elkhart, Indiana. By the way, its serial number is
illegible so I can't confirm an exact year, though this model was
only in production from 1936 to 1939, or so I'm told. These were the
forerunners of the 10M and had a wide bore brass body (hence enormous,
room-filling tone) and silver keywork- (which has been nickel plated on
this particular horn). The main distinguishing feature was the elaborate
adjustment screw system which allowed for problem of cork compression
and key height adjustment (basically, everything adjustable should you
wish).
Here's what Sax Guru Steve Goodson has to say about them on his
site www.saxgourmet.com -
"We’re talking about REAL saxophones here! There’s nothing on this
Earth quite like one of these at full song! The Conqueror series (26M
and 30M) have very elaborate adjustment mechanisms and solid silver key
touches. It was designed by my good friend, and legend, Santy Runyon."

This particular horn has about
75% original lacquer (the crook is mostly lacquer free- which, I
suspect contributes a bit to it's character) & has recently been
overhauled. Comes complete with an SKB hard case.
Believe me- it's a reluctant sale. It's got a lot of character and
served me very well for about 10 years."
